A Wonderful Tournament

By MT Arnold, DLS...

Other than the 110 degree heat index, the 2010 Women's Hospital Classic was a huge success and very enjoyable.   It was a great time and a super tournament, well organized, and well played.  I had the opportunity to meet some  wonderful people...Players from all over the world, some came with family support, but most of them just young women traveling on their own.  Impressed by the talent level, their atheltic ability, and most of all, their desire to compete and stay focused in the extreme heat, it made me  want to get out and play.  Yes, as always in heated competition we had our share of injuries, pulled and strained muscles, ankle sprains, and old nagging injuries that always seem to act up at the wrong time.  However, through it all, these 'Sports Divas' put on a great show for Evansville.   Running any event like this is a lot of work,  so a special thanks  goes out to those that do: Tournament Host, Anna Hazlett and Advantage Court and Fitness, The Women's  Hospital, The Evansville Tennis Association, and the entire army of volunteers that it takes to pull off a USTA Pro-Circuit Tournament.  I,  for one, am very proud to have been involved with the promotion and media coverage of this event, and on behalf of Diva la Sports I look forward to next years event.

Update: 7/24/10

*McDowell pulls out with injury: Amanda Mcdowell, 'Divas Pick' to win the entire singles event pulled out of the Tournament on Friday with a back injury.  She was sailing right through the tournament with her last win being 6-0 6-0 in the main draw, however she felt like she needed to protect herself from futher injury.

*Paz advances in both singles and doubles play: Call her double trouble if you will as Gabriela Paz (seeded #4) has advanced to play in both the Doubles Final (today at 1pm) and also the Singles Final on Sunday.   Teaming up with Anastasia Kharchenko, Paz has a chance to won both the Doubles and the Singles Title....see her interview on this page.
