ARNOLD SELECTS DEPAUW!
Mary has received a multiple scholarship package to attend DePauw University where she plans to play tennis for coach Scott Riggle and the Depauw Tigers. She will graduate from Reitz High School in May 2010 with honors and a 4.0 GPA. She'll finish her hs sports career with a total of nine varsity letters. Mary plans to major in Sports Medicine while at DePauw and hopes to attend Med School in the fall of 2014.

Summer 2009/Update:

Sectional Champs, Mary with Tennis Doubles partner, Whitney Brown and Coach Josh Mason.
Mary accomplished some great things her junior year, both on and off the playing surface... she won two team sectional titles, received the 'Mental Attitude Award' in soccer, and was equally strong in the class room: She enters her Senior year with a 4.0 gpa in the (AP) Honors program, having already completed 44 total credit hours. She also continues to develop her leadership skills by serving as a Class Officer, Teen Advisory Council Co-Chair, Student Council Officer, Church Youth Leader, Soccer Team Captain, and she was recently selected to the National Honor Society. Even though she is an accomplished runner, Mary elected to drop track her Junior year so she could focus exclusively on tennis and soccer. In order to improve her tennis skills, Mary has plans to play in some USTA (CITA) tournaments her Senior year. She is also looking forward to the fall soccer season where she hopes to finish her high school career on a high note - Reitz returns nine seniors from last years Sectional Championship team. Mary is still exploring her options for college and has already made several college visits.

Mary, now 17, has grown 2 inches and put on 15 lbs of muscle since her Sophomore year...she has just completed the first half of her Junior year with a 4.0GPA...during the fall, she played cm and forward on the Reitz Sectional Championship Team where she was awarded the 2008 'Mental Attitude Award'....she also made Academic All-City in Soccer, Tennis and Track for the second straight year. She was just recently elected captain of her SWISA U-17/18 Travel team where she plays center-mid for Coach Liz Castle... She continues to stay active in church, school and community. She's currently in-training for the spring tennis season.
Summer 2008
Mary, will be a junior at Reitz High School in the fall of 2008, where she carries a 4.0gpa in the Reitz Honors (AP)Program. In her Freshman year, Mary earned Academic All-City Honors in two Sports, and earned three in her Sophomore year. In addition to being a three-sport Student- Athlete, she also serves as a Class Officer, is a member of Student Council, Teen Advisory Council, Fellowship of Chrisitian Athletes, and stays busy doing other school and community activities. This will be Mary's second year playing defender on the Reitz girls varsity soccer team (16-1-1 City/SIAC Champs)...she was also the Captain of the the 2007 Reitz JV team where she was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year. As a freshman, Mary started and played every minute of each game as a sweeper/defender on the Reitz 11-1 JV SIAC and City Championship team. Mary has played club soccer for 8 years and currently plays for the SWISA U-18 Lady Strikers. Whereas, Soccer is Mary's first (sports) love, she also excels at track and tennis, winning varsity letters in both sports her freshman/soph years...in 2006, she advanced to the track regional's in the 4 x 800 and 1600. More than just an athlete, Mary donates many hours to her church on youth mission trips and other service, she has served on five mission trips for Hurricane relief and other forms of mission. In 2007, she was featured as the Evansville area 'Athlete of the Month' for the June/July issue of Evansville's GoTeamMagazine. In 2005, she was nominated for the Indiana 'Sports Girl of the Year' by the National Women's Sports Foundation (she finished in the top five). Mary has been described by coaches as a 'smart and very coachable player'...As a Perry Heights eight grader she played five sports. Upon graduation from Middle School, Mary received the School's Leadership/Scholarship Award, The Presidential Award, The 'Kindest' Award, and was voted by her peers as the 'most likely to succeed'...She also lead her track team to a city championship and finished in the 'top' five at the City Cross Country Meet. She attributes her success to being blessed with good teachers (mentors), hard work, good training and a positive attitude! Outside of sports, Mary enjoys arts and crafts, reading, and working out. She plans on specializing in sports medicine after High School and is currently looking at the University of Evansville, UNC, Liberty University, DePauw, Miami of Ohio, but is leaving other options open for scholarship consideration.
